Breaker trips during charging
Usually a circuit sized for the charger's peak rather than continuous load, or a charger set higher than the breaker allows.
Charger tripping the breaker or refusing to start? Find the actual fault before you pay for a new unit.
Most charger problems we see in Chicago aren't inside the charger. They're in the circuit feeding it: a breaker that's too small for a continuous load, a loose connection that heats up, or an outlet worn out from daily plugging.
Every EV charger repair visit starts with testing the circuit, the connections and the charger's own error codes. Then we tell you what failed and why. If the fault is inside a sealed charger, we'll help you through the manufacturer's warranty process rather than opening it up.
If the original wiring was never right, we'll say so. Our EV charger electrician visits often end with a corrected circuit, not a new charger.

Heat at a 240-volt outlet points to a loose terminal or a worn receptacle. It needs attention before it becomes a fire risk.
We check the breaker, the wiring at both ends and any ground-fault device before blaming the unit.
Overheating connections, voltage drop on a long run or a charger configured below the circuit can all slow charging.
Some chargers aren't worth fixing. When Enel X Way shut down its North American business, JuiceBox chargers lost their app and scheduling features after October 11, 2024. They can still charge, but owners who want scheduling or rebate eligibility often replace them.
ComEd's current rebate rules exclude Enel X and JuiceBox chargers. If you're replacing a unit anyway, check the eligible charger list before you buy.
When the circuit is fine, swapping the charger is usually quick. When it isn't, we fix the wiring first. For bigger electrical problems, see our panel upgrade for EV charger options.
Tell us what happens, when it started and any error lights or app messages.
We check the breaker, wiring, outlet and charger under load where it's safe to do so.
You get the cause and the fix, with a price, before any repair work.
We make the repair and confirm the charger runs at its expected rate.
Outlet warm or discolored? Stop charging and get it checked.

Usually the circuit is undersized for continuous charging, the charger is set higher than the breaker, or a connection is failing. Each has a different fix.
Slightly warm can happen under load, but hot, discolored or melted plastic is not. Stop using it and have the outlet and wiring checked.
Yes. We troubleshoot any Level 2 charger circuit in Chicago and nearby suburbs, whoever installed it.
Internal faults in sealed units are usually warranty items. We confirm the wiring is good so the manufacturer can't point back at the install.
Tell us what it's doing and how it's wired. We'll trace the problem and price the EV charger repair before any work starts.
