Scheduled charging
Setting the charger to run overnight pairs well with ComEd's hourly pricing and time-of-day delivery rates.
Need a charger installed at home? Get a Level 2 unit wired and mounted in your garage or driveway, ready to use.
A good home EV charger installation depends on three things: where the car sits overnight, how far that spot is from the panel, and whether you'll ever charge two cars.
An attached garage near the panel is the simplest case. A detached garage means a longer run, often underground, and a driveway means outdoor-rated equipment and a protected conduit run along the house.
Once you've picked a spot, the rest follows the usual plan from our Chicago EV charger installers: load check, written scope, install and inspection.
Mount the charger on the side of the garage closest to your charge port, at a height where the cable hangs clear of the floor. In a tight garage, a few feet of placement can decide whether you trip over the cable every morning.
Outdoors, place the unit where snow gets cleared and the cable won't sit in a puddle. Chicago winters stiffen charging cables, so a wall holster or cable hook keeps them off the ground.
For alley-facing garages, the run usually starts in the basement and crosses the yard in buried conduit. We plan the depth and route before quoting.

Smart features only work if the charger stays connected. We check signal before choosing the spot.
ComEd's rebate requires a smart, ENERGY STAR certified Level 2 charger. Picking one up front keeps that option open.
Some chargers can split one circuit between two cars, which helps when the panel can't spare a second large breaker.
Hardwired chargers have no plug to wear out and can often charge faster. Plug-in chargers use a NEMA 14-50 outlet, so they're easy to take with you when you move.
If you drive a Tesla, the Wall Connector is hardwired; see our Tesla charger installation page for how it's set up.

Long enough to reach the charge port from where you park without stretching, usually measured on site. Most wall units come with a cable of roughly 18 to 25 feet.
Yes, if it's rated for outdoor use. We mount it clear of snow and standing water and protect the conduit run.
Not to charge, but you need one for ComEd's rebate and for scheduling charging during low-price hours.
Yes. Two circuits, one circuit with power sharing, or a dual-port charger can all work depending on your panel.
