Breaker and amp setting
The Wall Connector is configured during setup to match the breaker it's on. We set it to the circuit we installed so the unit never asks for more than the wiring can carry.
Wall Connector arriving soon? Get it wired on the right breaker and mounted where the cable actually reaches your charge port.
A Wall Connector is only as fast as the circuit behind it. Tesla's installation manual pairs a 60-amp breaker with 48 amps of charging, a 50-amp breaker with 40 amps, and so on down the table. We size the breaker and wire to the fastest rate your panel can safely support, not the fastest the unit can do on paper.
Placement matters just as much. The cable has to reach the charge port without crossing a walkway or getting pinched by a garage door, so we plan the mount around how you pull in and back out.
Have a second car that isn't a Tesla? Our main page on EV charger installation Chicago covers other Level 2 brands and sharing one circuit between two cars.
The Wall Connector is hardwired, charges faster and has nothing to unplug. It's the cleaner choice if you charge every day and plan to stay in the house.
A NEMA 14-50 outlet works with Tesla's Mobile Connector and its 14-50 adapter, which tops out at 32 amps. It costs less up front and moves with you, but the plug and outlet see wear if you unplug often.
If your panel is tight, either option can be set to a lower rate. A 40-amp circuit still adds plenty of overnight range for most commutes.

Long runs to a detached garage can need a larger wire size to keep voltage drop down. We size it for the actual distance, not a guess.
Wall Connectors receive firmware updates over Wi-Fi. We check signal at the mounting spot so the unit stays connected.
Wall Connectors can share one circuit and split power between cars, which can avoid a second large breaker.
Most Tesla charger installation jobs fall between about $600 and $2,500, the same range as other Level 2 chargers. A garage next to the panel sits near the low end; a detached garage, finished ceilings or panel work push it higher.
The Wall Connector itself is bought separately from Tesla. Panel or service upgrades are priced after the site visit.
We confirm where you park, where the panel is and how much capacity is open.
You get the breaker size, wire size, route and mounting height in writing.
We run the circuit in conduit, mount the Wall Connector and land the breaker.
We configure the unit for the breaker, connect it to Wi-Fi and confirm it charges at the expected rate.
We install Wall Connectors throughout Chicago and nearby suburbs.

It depends on the breaker. On a 60-amp circuit the Wall Connector delivers up to 48 amps, which is the fastest home rate; a 40-amp circuit delivers 32 amps.
No. Many homes use a 40- or 50-amp circuit to stay within panel capacity. For most daily driving, the slower rate still refills the battery overnight.
Yes, the Wall Connector is rated for outdoor use. We mount it where the cable reaches and protect the conduit run along the wall.
The current Wall Connector comes with Tesla's connector, so other brands need an adapter. If you have mixed cars, ask about a J1772 Wall Connector or a universal Level 2 charger.
Yes. In Chicago, a new circuit for a Wall Connector is permitted electrical work, inspected after the install.
Tell us which Tesla you drive, where you park and where your panel is. We'll plan your Tesla charger installation around the circuit and the mount.
